Emily Carmichael Will Direct ‘Lumberjanes’ Movie
It’s been over a year since we found out Fox was developing a live action movie based on the comic Lumberjanes. Well, it’s 2016, and happily it seems like the project is continuing forward.
The Wrap is reporting that the film has now found it’s director with Emily Carmichael. BOOM!, the publisher of the Lumberjanes comic, also tweeted out the announcement:
We're so excited to have @emilycarmichael on board to direct the @Lumberjanes movie! https://t.co/vWnlUcZvhm

Carmichael is fairly unknown as a director, though her short films have gained acclaim. An independent mindset might be best though for any version of a work as interesting and unique as Lumberjanes, so the lack of experience may in fact be an asset.
For those unfamiliar with the Lumberjanes comic, it’s illustrated by Brooke A. Allen and created by Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis and Noelle Stevenson. I like to describe the plot of the comic as a standard “girls go to camp story, only with a bunch of supernatural monsters and stuff.” It gets compared to the film Goonies! by people, but I think that oversimplifies it.
And I for one am excited about this film.
