‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Gives CBS All Access a Record Setting Day For Sign Ups

Star Trek: Discovery premiered last night, bringing Star Trek back to TV for the first time in over a decade. And while the first episode brought in over eight million viewers over broadcast, that’s not where the second episode was found or where the rest of series will be airing. For that, you would have to head over to CBS All Access.

And apparently a whole lot of us did.

While we don’t know what the actual numbers are, CBS is reporting that the streaming service broke their record for single day sign ups. The previous record holder was the day of the 2017 Grammy Awards.

I have to admit, that even though I had been planning on holding off until the season was over, I myself also put up the $5.99 to watch the show immediately. Well, technically I haven’t yet, as I’m still in my free trial week. That said though, without numbers, we don’t know if this will be enough to sustain the series. Signing up for an extra $6 a month (or $10 if you don’t want commercials) for just a single show seem ludicrous. Personally, I have no intention of keeping the plan when the show isn’t airing.

I’m betting a lot of people won’t.

Unless they super want to watch old episodes of Nash Bridges.
