The Sequel to ‘Jurassic World’ Has Found a Director
With how well Jurassic World did at the box office, it was no surprise when a sequel was announced last year. Director Colin Trevorrow will have a bit on his plate though, directing a Star Wars, so we knew someone else was going to have to take over the director’s chair.
And now we know who.
Yesterday it was announced on twitter that director J.A. Bayona would take over the film on both his and Colin Trevorrow‘s twitter accounts. Bayona isn’t exactly a household name, though he has more films under his belt than Trevorrow did when he tackled last year’s Jurassic World.
While I enjoyed Jurassic World as a film, it was far more of an action adventure than the earlier entries in the franchise. One of the things I loved about the original Jurassic Park was how scary and tense some scenes were — and I felt that was absent from the soft-reboot. Hopefully Bayona (whose debut film The Orphanage was pretty terrifying) can bring some of that suspense back to the franchise.
Jurassic World 2 (or whatever they’ll call it) is currently scheduled to come out June 22, 2018.
